BHE endeavours to divert waste from our landfills through:

  • Biosolids (treated municipal wastewater sludge)

BENEFICIAL UTILIZATION INITIATIVES FOR WASTESTREAM ORGANICS

SLUDGE/BIOSOLIDS
BHE and LW Diamond Environmental will provide the following services for communities experiencing a sludge build-up in their wastewater lagoon cell(s):

  • Explain the various options available and estimated costs to de-sludge their wastewater lagoon cell(s).
  • Prepare an end use plan for the biosolids, which may include utilizing the nutrient rich biosolids as a source of organic fertilizer of an organic soil amendment.
  • Secure suitable end use land (agricultural land, or a pit and quarry reclamation / rehabilitation site) to utilize the biosolids.
  • Provide liaison with the Department of Environment/Conservation, landowner, and local Municipality.
  • Obtain and Environmental License of the required works.
  • Obtain landowner agreement.
  • Conduct all environmental monitoring including the collection and analysis of soil and sludge samples.
  • Prepare tender documents (if required).
  • Provide on-site Project Management.
  • Prepare progress reports for the City & respective stakeholder agencies

LIME SLUDGE
BHE and LW Diamond Environmental have identified numerous beneficial uses for lime sludges produced in the softening process at water treatment plants. BHE and LW Diamond will prepare a waste management plan suited to your environment.

COMPOSTING INITIATIVES
BHE and LW Diamond Environmental are leading composting initiatives to divert organic wastestreams from landfills. The composting creates a valuable end use product from the waste and creating an end compost that can either be publicity distributed or used in regional landscaping initiatives (thereby saving in total capital expenditures in relation to the quantity of topsoil a community purchases annually).
